На следующее утро Сергей проснулся в 6 утра, по будильнику. В первое мгновение, после пробуждения (awakening – awakening, arousal, waking, rising – the act of waking up from sleep), он удивился, обнаружив себя в новой обстановке (surroundings – environment, setting, situation, context – the objects and conditions around a person or thing). Но затем, воспоминания «загрузились», а в голове прояснилось (became clear – cleared up, brightened, illuminated, clarified – to become or make something easier to understand).

Он встал с огромной кровати, сунул ноги в тапочки и начал новый день. Умывшись (having washed – washed, cleansed, rinsed, purified – to clean one's face and hands with water) и позавтракав вчерашними (yesterday's – yesterday's, from yesterday, previous day's, prior day's – belonging to or occurring on the day before the current day) сырниками, Сергей отправился на предприятие.

Дорога вдоль сквера была недолгой, и вот, он уже на проходной. Та же женщина в окошке под вывеской «Бюро пропусков», тот же охранник Леонид у турникета.

Слегка наклонившись, Сергей помахал (waved – waved, gestured, signaled, beckoned – to move one's hand to and fro as a greeting or sign) рукой женщине, в качестве приветствия (greeting – greeting, salutation, welcome, acknowledgment – a polite expression of welcome or recognition). Потом подошел к турникету, на ходу вытаскивая (pulling out – extracting, removing, withdrawing, taking out – to remove something from a place or container) пропуск и показывая его охраннику.

Подойдя к охраннику, Сергей поздоровался: «Доброе утро, Леонид! Извините, не знаю вашего отчества». «Доброе утро, Сергей Семёнович! Ничего страшного, если хотите, отчество у меня: Николаевич» - ответил охранник, и нажал кнопку на пульте (control panel – console, dashboard, switchboard, interface – a panel or board with switches, buttons, etc. for controlling machinery or equipment). «Сергей Семёнович, в следующий раз вы можете просто приложить (apply – apply, attach, place, put – to bring something into contact with something else) пропуск к этому датчику (sensor – detector, transducer, receiver, monitor – a device that detects and responds to some type of input from the physical environment), вот он на турникете, обведён (circled – encircled, surrounded, ringed, outlined – to draw a circle around something) кругом (circle – circle, ring, round, loop – a round plane figure whose boundary consists of points equidistant from a fixed point), тогда турникет сам откроется» - добавил охранник. «Хорошо, теперь буду знать, Леонид Николаевич!» - ответил Сергей.

Сергей прошел через турникет на территорию завода. Территория была довольно большая. Но, к счастью, на дорожках (pathways – paths, tracks, trails, walkways – a narrow way or track, usually made of something firmer than the surrounding ground), ведущих к разным цехам (workshops – shops, factories, plants, mills – a building where goods are manufactured or repaired) и складам (warehouses – depots, stores, godowns, storage facilities – a building for storing goods), были установлены указатели (signs – indicators, pointers, markers, signals – something that indicates, points out, or directs attention), некоторые были со схемами, где было нарисовано, что и где находится, и ещё была нарисована жирная точка с надписью (inscription – writing, lettering, caption, label – words written or printed on something) «Вы сейчас здесь». Так что Сергею не было необходимости искать прохожего, чтобы узнать правильную дорогу. «Как это они удобно сделали!» - восхитился (admired – admired, praised, applauded, marveled – to regard with wonder, pleasure, or approval) Сергей.

Через несколько минут он дошел до цеха номер 6. Это было довольно старое здание, было очевидно, что оно стоит здесь ещё со времён СССР. Здание было большое, серое, из бетона (concrete – concrete, cement, masonry, stone – a building material made from a mixture of cement, sand, and gravel), в здании было несколько ворот (gates – doors, entrances, openings, portals – a movable barrier used to close an opening), для въезда (entry – entry, access, ingress, arrival – the action of entering a place) грузовиков (trucks – lorries, vans, vehicles, automobiles – a motor vehicle designed for the transport of goods). И ещё большие ворота, и рельсы, которые, вероятно, проходили этот цех насквозь. Сергей не видел цех целиком (entirely – completely, wholly, fully, totally – in every part; in its entirety), но пока он шел, то несколько раз пересекал железнодорожные пути.

Когда Сергей подходил к цеху, он уже начинал слышать шум работы и обонять (smell – smell, scent, sniff, inhale – to perceive the odor of something) запахи горячего металла, машинного масла и мазута (fuel oil – heavy oil, residual oil, burner oil, heating oil – a viscous, heavy liquid hydrocarbon fuel). Сквозь (through – through, across, over, along – moving from one side to another side of something) окна были видны вспышки (flashes – flares, sparks, glimmers, bursts – a sudden brief burst of bright light) от электросварки (electric welding – arc welding, resistance welding, spot welding, seam welding – a process that joins metallic parts by applying localized heat and pressure, often with the use of electricity).

К счастью, искать правильный вход, обходя (bypassing – circumventing, avoiding, evading, skipping – to go around or avoid something) весь цех вокруг, не пришлось, маршрут, нарисованный на последнем указателе, приводил прямо к главному входу.

Пройдя в цех, он, первым делом оказался у офиса, который находился в самом цеху, но, фактически, представлял собой небольшой дом, стенами и окнами отгородившийся от шума и гари (soot – smoke, grime, dirt, ash – black powder that comes from incomplete burning of fuel).

Сергей подошёл к двери офиса, повернул дверную (door – door, entryway, portal, gateway – a barrier to close an opening) ручку и вошёл внутрь.

Сразу за дверью обнаружилась (was found – discovered, found, detected, unearthed – to find something unexpectedly) большая комната, где переодевались (changed clothes – changed, dressed, got changed, got ready – to put on different clothes) рабочие, которые пришли работать в утреннюю смену. Переодеваясь в спецовки (work clothes – overalls, coveralls, uniforms, workwear – protective clothing worn by workers), они обменивались (exchanged – exchanged, swapped, traded, shared – to give something and receive something else in return) шутками, подтрунивая (teasing – teasing, joking, kidding, ragging – to playfully mock or taunt someone) друг над другом, делились планами на свою работу и рассказывали о планах на вечер.

Сергей подошел к ближайшему человеку, который уже был в рабочих ботинках и брюках, надевал немного грязную рабочую куртку и спросил: «Доброе утро, как бы мне найти Дениса Ивановича Портнова?» Рабочий, оглядел (looked over – examined, inspected, surveyed, reviewed – to look at someone or something carefully) Сергея с головы до ног, как будто оценивая (assessing – evaluating, judging, appraising, estimating – to judge or determine the value of something), и спросил у Сергея: «А вы кто, зачем вам Портнов?» Сергей ответил: «Хм, Меня зовут Сергей Семёнович Смирнов, я приехал из Санкт-Петербурга, из фирмы «Роботех», для наладки промышленного робота, который мы вам поставили, и, который, находится у нас на гарантийном (warranty – warranty, guarantee, assurance, pledge – a written promise from a seller to repair or replace a product if it fails during a specific period of time) обслуживании (service – maintenance, servicing, repair, upkeep – work done to keep something in good condition). А Денис Иванович является руководителем группы, где этот робот используется» Сергею было несколько неприятно, что рабочий, вместо того, чтобы подсказать, как найти нужного человека, стал выспрашивать (questioning – asking, inquiring, interrogating, probing – to ask many questions): кому и зачем кто-то понадобился.

Рабочий неожиданно улыбнулся, и протянул крепкую руку для рукопожатия: «Отлично, Сергей Семёнович, тогда будем знакомы, я, как раз, Портнов, которого вы разыскивали (were looking for – sought, searched for, hunted, pursued – to try to find someone or something)!» Сергей смутился (was embarrassed – embarrassed, ashamed, flustered, humbled – feeling awkward or self-conscious) и сказал: «Здравствуйте, Денис Иванович, я принял вас за рабочего, пока вы одевались, извините!» Портнов ответил: «Тут вы почти не ошиблись, я начинал тут работать именно как рабочий, и спецовку ношу (wear – wear, carry, don, sport – to have something on one's body as clothing) в цеху, потому, что тут иногда бывает грязновато (dirty – dirty, unclean, soiled, grimy – covered in dirt).» С этими словами, он поправил (adjusted – adjusted, fixed, mended, rectified – to make something better or more accurate) рабочую куртку, и на куртке стал заметен (visible – visible, noticeable, apparent, discernible – capable of being seen) бэйдж (badge – badge, ID, tag, label – a small piece of metal or plastic used as an identification tag) с надписью «Портнов Д.
