Денис Иванович спросил у Сергея: «У вас своя спецовка (спецодежда — overalls, work clothes, coveralls, uniform — protective clothing worn by workers) есть, или вам дать нашу?» Сергей, подумал мгновение, и ответил «Да, пожалуй, мне не помешала бы спецодежда! Спасибо!» «Ну, что же, тогда, пойдёмте на склад, я найду вам подходящий комплект. Он будет не новый, но вполне чистый» - сказал Портнов. Он, взял Сергея под локоть (elbow — arm, bend, joint, angle — the point of the arm where it bends), повёл (led — guided, conducted, directed, escorted — to guide someone) вглубь (deep inside — inner, interior, central, profound — far into something) офиса. Они подошли к одной из дверей, на ней не было никаких обозначений (markings — labels, signs, symbols, indications — something that is written, printed, or drawn that shows something else). Портнов достал из кармана связку (bunch — cluster, bundle, collection, group — several things tied together) ключей, выбрал нужный и открыл эту дверь. За дверью было темно. Денис Иванович протянул руку за дверь, нашарил (found by touch — groped, felt, discovered, located — to find something by feeling) выключатель и в комнатке (small room — chamber, cubicle, compartment, closet — a small room) зажегся (lit up — illuminated, brightened, blazed, glowed — started to burn or shine) свет. Портнов подошел к стеллажу (shelf — rack, stand, counter, unit — a frame of shelves) справа, там было несколько свёртков (bundles — packages, rolls, parcels, packs — items rolled up in a cloth or paper) перевязанных (tied — bound, fastened, secured, attached — connected with string or rope) верёвкой (rope — cord, line, string, cable — strong thick string) с бирками (tags — labels, tickets, markers, stickers — small piece of paper). Проверяя надписи на бирках, он выбрал один из свёртков и протянул его Сергею: «Вот, примерьте (try on — test, fit, check, assess — to put on to see if it fits), должно подойти. Вот вам ключ от шкафчика в раздевалке (locker room — changing room, dressing room, restroom, cloakroom — a room with lockers for changing clothes), будете там хранить ваши вещи, и переодеваться в рабочую одежду».

Сергей развернул свёрток, в котором была пара рабочих брюк и куртка. Он приложил к себе по очереди брюки и куртку, посмотрел на длину брючин (trousers legs — pants legs, bottoms, shafts, shanks — the lower part of trousers) и рукавов. Было похоже, что и впрямь (indeed — truly, really, actually, certainly — in fact), всё подходит.

«Спасибо!», — поблагодарил Сергей.

Они вышли из комнатки, в руках у Дениса Ивановича была оранжевая каска (helmet — hard hat, headgear, skullcap, crash helmet — protective head covering). Сергей кивнул, и они направились обратно, в сторону раздевалки.

Сергей быстро нашел шкафчик, по номеру на брелоке с ключом. Он живо переоделся (changed clothes — got dressed, dressed, shifted, transformed — putting on different clothes). Рабочие, тем временем, почти все разошлись (left — dispersed, scattered, departed, went away — to go to different places) по своим рабочим местам.

Он зашёл в комнату к инженеру. На столе, развёрнутая (opened — unfolded, spread, expanded, displayed — laid out flat) в сторону Сергея, лежала довольно толстая пачка бумаги с текстом и журнал для подписи.

Инженер сказал: «Вот, если хотите, можете читать подробно, но, в целом, правила простые, не делайте ничего, что не стали бы делать на трезвую (sober — clear-headed, lucid, sensible, rational — not drunk) голову. Если что-то не знаете – спросите у меня или у ребят. Носите каску, за пределы участка не выходите. Как вы понимаете, все подписи в этом журнале нужны, чтобы снять ответственность с предприятия, если с вами случится неприятность. Будут искать, прежде всего, нарушения инструкции по безопасности. Если ваша подпись есть, значит, вы были в курсе, а то, что с вами случилось – ваша вина. Исключая (excepting — excluding, omitting, leaving out, disregarding — not including) какие-то глобальные (global — worldwide, universal, international, comprehensive — affecting the whole world) проблемы, ну, не знаю, если крыша этого корпуса на вас упадёт (falls — drops, descends, tumbles, collapses — to come down from a higher position)».

Сергей ответил: «Да, это всё понятно, стандартная ситуация. Всё читать не буду, только пролистаю основные пункты». Сергей расписался.

С этими словами, он встал из-за стола, и они пошли к выходу. На выходе из кабинета, инженер снял с вешалки белую каску, надел на голову. Они вышли. Инженер запер за собою дверь.

Цех был большой, так что вдоль цеха они шли несколько минут. Проходя по цеху, Сергей наблюдал, как трудятся (work — labor, toil, strive, endeavor — to exert effort to produce or accomplish something) люди, как подъёмные (lifting — hoisting, raising, elevating, ascending — capable of lifting) механизмы транспортируют (transport — convey, carry, move, transfer — to move something from one place to another) детали и узлы…

Наконец они подошли к участку, где Сергею предстояло решать проблему.

«Вот», — показал рукой Денис Иванович: «Вот ваш робот-манипулятор, вот наш тестовый стенд. Сюда манипулятор должен загрузить узел, а после завершения теста снять. Если с узлом всё в порядке, то переставит (relocate — move, shift, transfer, reposition — to move something to a new location) его на эту тележку, если параметры не подходят, то на другую»…

«Так, а в чем проблема с манипулятором? Он вообще никак не работает? Не устанавливает узел или не снимает?» - спросил Сергей.

«Проблема в том, что он не включается вообще, хотя, электропитание (power supply — electricity, current, voltage, energy — the electrical power needed for operation) приходит, сообщений о неисправностях (malfunctions — faults, failures, defects, breakdowns — the state of not working correctly) нету. «Хорошо», — сказал Сергей, буду разбираться. «А кто занимается со стендом?» - спросил Сергей, поняв, что приглашенным специалистом по стенду, похоже, всё-таки (still — yet, nevertheless, nonetheless, however — despite what has been said) будет он.

«А, вот, как раз ребята идут!» - указывая на трёх молодых парней, сказал Портнов: «Знакомьтесь! Вот Сергей Семёнович из Питера», — Сказал Денис Иванович, указывая на Сергея. «Вот Виталий Петрович, Яков Дмитриевич, а это ваш тёзка (namesake — peer, equal, twin, counterpart — someone who shares the same name) – Сергей Николаевич», — Сказал Денис Иванович, по очереди показывая на парней, которых Сергей уже видел в кафе «Сковородка». Все, по очереди, пожали друг другу руки.
