Глава пятьдесят шестая. Часть вторая.
Пока Вероника ходила за бумагами, в комнате началась мелкая суета. Девушки убирали свои бумаги, кто-то расстилал (spread out - unfold, lay out, open up, extend - to open or arrange something over a flat surface) салфетку на свой рабочий стол. Кто-то доставал чашки из нижнего отдела шкафа для бумаг.
- Вы… Ты… Вы не против, если мы перейдём (switch - change, shift, move, transition - to change from one form, state, or style to another) на «ты»? – Спросила Светлана Константиновна Марию.
- Да, конечно! Нет проблем! – ответила Мария.
- Классно. Ты ничего не имеешь против пиццы с грибами? – Спросила Светлана.
- Да! Я люблю грибы! - Мария улыбнулась.
- Отлично, тогда я заказываю пиццу с ветчиной (ham - cured meat, gammon, prosciutto, pork - meat from a pig's thigh, preserved by salting, smoking, or wet-curing) и грибами! Все – «за»? – Светлана сказала эту фразу, так чтобы все слышали, и если бы кто-то был против, то мог бы возразить.
Никто не возразил. Пиццу с грибами и ветчиной любили все.
Женщины живо передавали друг другу чашки, чайные пакетики, кто-то насыпал себе растворимый (instant - quick-dissolving, soluble, fast-preparing, ready-mix - designed to dissolve quickly in water) кофе.
Когда Вероника вернулась, следом (right after - immediately after, following, behind, next - immediately afterwards or behind) за ней вошел охранник, который принёс доставленную к проходной пиццу.
Он поискал глазами по комнате, рассматривая перестановку (rearrangement - reconfiguration, reshuffle, reorganization, realignment - the act of changing the position or order of things), вызванную новым рабочим столом для Марии. Немного нахмурился, столкнувшись взглядами с Марией. Наконец нашел новое положение Светланы Константиновны, и опустил стопку коробок на расчищенное (cleared - cleared off, emptied, freed up, tidied - made neat or clear by removing objects) место на её столе.
- Вот, новые рабочие материалы, смотрите, не перерабатывайте (overwork - work too hard, overexert, burn the midnight oil, strain oneself - to work beyond one's capacity or strength)! – иронично (ironically - sarcastically, mockingly, sardonically, wryly - in a way that expresses meaning opposite to the literal words) сопроводил (accompanied - said along with, added, remarked, stated - said or done in connection with an action) свои действия охранник. И многозначительно посмотрел на Светлану.
- Ничего, мы привычные, справимся! – в тон ему ответила Светлана Константиновна.
Взмахнув (waving - brandishing, flourishing, swinging, gesturing - moving the hand or an object back and forth), на прощание, рукой, охранник вышел.
- «Не перерабатывайте!» - Светлана несколько возмущенно (indignantly - angrily, resentfully, irritably, exasperatedly - in a manner showing anger or annoyance at perceived unfairness) повторила фразу охранника, — Как будто у нас тут пир горой! Да тут всего по паре кусочков на человека.
Но, всё же Светлана озабоченно вздохнула, признавая свою слабость (weakness - fondness, soft spot, liking, penchant - a particular liking or fondness for something) к лакомствам.
- Вот, возьмите. У вас собственной, скорее всего, с собой нет. У нас тут запасная есть. – Тонкая молодая женщина с тёмными волосами и короткой прической (hairstyle - haircut, coiffure, hairdo, cut - the style in which someone's hair is cut and arranged) протянула Марии простую цилиндрическую (cylindrical - tube-shaped, barrel-shaped, rod-like, tubular - having the shape of a cylinder) чашку.

- Дарья! - Тогда будем знакомы ещё раз! – Мария протянула руку и представилась, — Мария! Спасибо за чашку!

Некоторое время коллеги насыщались (were satiating themselves - were eating their fill, were satisfying their hunger, were feasting, were indulging - to satisfy a need or desire fully) и все разговоры были сосредоточены вокруг совместного обеда.
Когда пицца была съедена, и окружающие (those around - the people nearby, the others present, the colleagues, the onlookers - people present in the vicinity), не торопясь, пили чай или кофе, Мария воспользовалась расслабленностью (relaxed state - looseness, informality, ease, casualness - the quality of being free from tension) коллеги и спросила:
- Светлана Константиновна, можно вам не очень рабочий вопрос? – спросила Мария, стараясь придать голосу доверительный (confidential - trusting, intimate, personal, private - intended to be private or secret) оттенок.
- Ну, конечно! Только давай тогда по имени, без формальностей – просто Светлана! – Светлана пила чай из большой чашки, в которую, ранее положила изрядную порцию сахара.
- Хорошо! Я сегодня с вашим директором общалась, он какой-то мрачный был, но не похоже, что из-за моего внезапного визита. Как будто его что-то тяготит (weighs on - burdens, troubles, oppresses, bothers - to cause distress or anxiety) уже давно, а я дополнительная помеха (hindrance - obstacle, impediment, nuisance, inconvenience - something that causes delay or obstruction). – Размышляя вслух сказала Мария.

- У нашего Петра есть сын от прежнего брака. – Она сделала многозначительную (meaningful - significant, suggestive, pointed, eloquent - conveying a hidden or implied meaning) паузу. Посмотрела на Марию, и увидев интерес, удовлетворённо продолжила.

Я считаю, что поступает он правильно. С сыном тоже ладил, вроде. Но я подробностей не знаю, мы с ним ни чаю, ни водки вместе не пили, в доме у них я не бывала. Я, в основном, слухи и сплетни слышала.
Ну и вот, его сынуля ([diminutive, сын] little son - sonny, kid, boy, junior - a familiar or affectionate term for a son) связался с каким-то криминальным (criminal - illegal, unlawful, illicit, felonious - relating to crime) бизнесом. Но, это тоже не точно.
Мария задумчиво покивала головой, в том смысле, что дело не простое, у Петра Ивановича с его сыном.
Когда с обедом было закончено, со столов были убраны крошки, и чашки заняли своё место в шкафу, Мария взяла Светлану за запястье (wrist - carpus, joint, lower arm, forearm - the joint connecting the hand to the forearm) и слегка сжала, как при рукопожатии.
- Спасибо, что приняли меня в вашу компанию!
